
RN to BSN/MSN Admissions Requirements

Applicants to all programs offered by the School of Nursing must:
- have a current RN license valid in the United States
IMPORTANT: For your application to be processed, the College must be able to validate your RN license. If your state does not have an online RN license validation process, you must submit a notarized copy of current RN license valid in the U.S. to Thomas Edison State College, Office of Admissions, 101 W. State St., Trenton, NJ 08608-1176. BSN applicants must also submit the nonrefundable Credential Review Fee specified on the application.
- have proficiency in using a computer, browsing the Web and sending and receiving e-mail, including attachments.
- have minimum system requirements to access an online course: access to the Internet, an Internet browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer, or Firefox 2.0 or newer. Additional requirements that may apply to nursing courses are specified in the course descriptions listed in the Registration Bulletin. Some courses require access to PowerPoint and/or Excel software and a webcam.

- have all official diploma nursing school and college transcripts and college-level examination score reports sent to Thomas Edison State College, Office of the Registrar, 101 W. State St., Trenton, NJ 08608-1176. BSN degree graduates applying for the MSN degree program must have an official transcript sent from the institution where the BSN degree was awarded. Applicants for the Nurse Educator Certificate program must have an official transcript sent from the institution where the master’s degree in nursing was awarded. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institutions to the Office of the Registrar in unopened sealed envelopes with signatures across the seals. If you are transferring foreign credit, the College will accept credit recommendations, with a required course-by-course evaluation completed by any of the following agencies:

All costs associated with the international credit evaluation are the responsibility of the student. The College reserves the right to make its own determination on the amount and type of credit to be awarded based on the evaluations provide by these agencies. An enrolled student may transfer a maximum of 90 credits from international institutions. Foreign students in the United States on student (F-1) visas can use all methods available to U.S. students for completing their degree requirements. Course-by-course credit recommendations will be reviewed by Thomas Edison State College based upon existing transfer and degree policies in place at the time of application.
- two years experience in nursing is recommended for the MSN degree program and the Nurse Educator Certificate program.
Following receipt of the required documents, an academic program evaluation showing how previously completed credits apply to degree requirements will be completed and made available to students enrolled in the BSN degree program via myEdison. Students in the MSN degree program and the Nurse Educator Certificate program will have credits transcripted as graduate courses are completed and credits are applied to program requirements. Graduate nursing students may view their academic evaluations online via myEdison.
