College Again Named One of the Country’s “Best Buys”

GetEducated.com Ranks Six Bachelor’s Degree Programs Among Top Best Buys
TRENTON, N.J.(September 10, 2009) —Six bachelor's degree programs offered by Thomas Edison State College were named among the top best buys in the country in 2009 for regionally accredited online degree programs based on nationwide surveys conducted by GetEducated.com.

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree program at Thomas Edison State College was ranked as one of the top five best buys in the country for online regionally accredited undergraduate business degrees. GetEducated.com surveyed 83 regionally-accredited colleges, which offered a total of 391 online bachelor’s degrees related to a business or management major.

In a separate survey, GetEducated.com ranked the Bachelor of Arts degree program in Psychology at Thomas Edison State College as one of the top ten best buys in the country for online regionally accredited undergraduate psychology degrees. The same survey, which included 41 regionally accredited universities that offer 84 distance learning bachelor degrees in psychology and human services career areas, ranked four additional bachelor degree programs offered by the College in the top 15 in the nation. Those degrees programs included the Bachelor of Arts degree program in Social Science; the Bachelor of Arts degree program in Sociology; the Bachelor of Arts degree program in Political Science; and the Bachelor of Science in Human Services degree program.

“Online education is all about making higher education accessible, especially for working adults in need of a career education,” said Vicky Phillips, GetEducated.com’s founder and chief education analyst.  “College cost is a huge inhibiting factor for many Americans. The average cost of earning an online undergraduate business degree at a regionally accredited institution is approximately $43,000, according to the survey on business degrees.  The survey calculates the average cost of earning an online undergraduate business degree at Thomas Edison State College at approximately $30,000 for non-New Jersey residents, and approximately $21,000 for New Jersey residents.

The average cost of earning an online undergraduate degree in human services or psychology at a regionally accredited institution is approximately $40,000, according to the survey on human services and psychology degrees.  The survey calculates the average cost of earning an online undergraduate business degree at Thomas Edison State College at approximately $31,000 for non-New Jersey residents, and approximately $21,000 for New Jersey residents.

In both cases, bachelor's degree programs at Thomas Edison State College cost well below the national average for regionally accredited baccalaureate programs, according to GetEducated.com’s surveys.  Depending on several factors, including the number of credits a student transfers into a program and the type of tuition plan, the cost of earning a degree at Thomas Edison State College may be even lower.
